Cool, windy weekend with showers

Cooler and less humid this weekend, but also cloudy with scattered showers all thanks to TD 22 to our south.

NEW ORLEANS — Get ready for more fall-like weather! Clouds will move in today with a north wind. It will be slightly cooler today with highs in the low to mid 80s with just a few showers.

This weekend will be cooler with highs near 80 on both Saturday and Sunday. However, don’t get excited about sunshine. We’ll likely stay overcast through the weekend with scattered showers. It will also be breezy with a northeast wind. Along the coast and lake we could see gusts over 35 mph.

This is all thanks to TD 22 which sits in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico. This will send moisture and clouds our way with showers, especially south of the lake.

This pattern will continue into the beginning of next week as TD 22 moves very slowly and sits off the Texas coast.

Eye on the Tropics:

TD 22, likely to become Wilfred Friday, and our last name on the official list, is looking better developed in the SW Gulf with a fairly well-defined circulation on satellite and convection developing near that center. With a lack of steering currents, we won’t really see the storm do anything through the weekend. Models do very little in terms of a forward motion, with a general track nearly stationary or westward toward Mexico or Texas. The associated moisture will be surging northward and the GFS hints at some of that circulation moving toward us. However, with a front to our south by this weekend, the storm would be deflected away. The Euro indicated little motion into early next week before finally getting picked up by an upper trough and move in our direction late next week. It is certainly too soon to take either of these as gospel and it will continue to be monitored. Just enjoy the cooler and less humid air for this weekend.
