Hot and more humid with scattered storms today

The humidity is back to more normal August levels today and so is the heat. Louisiana is on the eastern side of a ridge of high pressure aloft over the SW U.S. and an area of high pressure over the eastern Gulf. This puts us in a favorable area for onshore flow with the sea breeze setting off showers and storms today. Some heavy rain is possible with any storm. High temperatures will be in the mid 90s. The heat index will be in the lower 100s. Tonight will be mostly clear inland, but we will have some coastal showers and storms. Lows will be in the mid to upper 70s.

Tuesday and Wednesday’s weather will not change. The sea breeze will set off daily thunderstorms with some heavy rain. High temperatures stay in the mid 90s and the heat index will be 105-108.

On Thursday and Friday, a trough of low pressure will move over the eastern U.S. This will help set off a better chance and coverage of showers and storms over us each day. Some rain will be heavy at times. High temperatures will only make it into the lower 90s before it starts raining.

Weekend Outlook: The trough will move to the east and an area of high pressure will move over the area. This will reduce the chance for rain, so we will be back to more typical summer weather with sea breeze thunderstorms each day. It will stay hot and humid with highs in the lower 90s.

Eye on the Tropics: We are tracking a tropical wave (Invest 95L) way out in the middle of the Atlantic between Africa and the Windward Islands. It is getting better organized and could become a tropical depression in the next day or two as it moves to the west. However, it will have unfavorable conditions to develop by the end of the week as it runs into stronger wind shear by the Windward islands.
