Cox Square 1NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana’s First Lady Donna Edwards honored Louisiana teachers as part of the Cox Innovation in Education Grants virtual awards ceremony on July 28. Mrs. Edwards encouraged teachers to continue with their innovation as they enter the 2020/2021 school year.

“From Westwego, to Baton Rouge, St. Martinville and New Orleans, educators this year have challenged themselves to innovate and develop K-12 programs like Outdoor Urban Gardens, Drone Programming for Education, and Reflex Mathematics,” said Edwards. “These programs and others like them will reach multiple grade levels and disciplines and impact student performance in many positive ways.”

Cox Communications employees donated $38,893 statewide and $15,035 in the New Orleans area.

Branded under the theme “Give Where You Live,” the unique, employee-giving campaign launched in 2015 in Cox’s southeast region, which includes Acadiana, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Florida’s Gulf Coast, Central Florida and middle Georgia. Dollars raised in each market stay in the market in which they were generated via payroll deduction. Funds raised by local, New Orleans-area employees benefit programs in Cox-serviceable areas in the metro area. To date, Cox employees have donated more than $640,000 to teachers and nonprofit organizations in the southeast.

In the New Orleans area, Cox Charities Advisory Council members reviewed grant applications and chose the following schools as recipients of this year’s Innovation in Education grants:

  • Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies
  • Joshua Butler Elementary
  • ReNEW Dolores Aaron Elementary
  • St. Augustine High School
  • St. Christopher the Martyr Catholic School
  • Success Preparatory Academy
  • W. Smith Elementary

“Not only is every dollar of the Cox Charities grants generated directly from the paychecks of generous, caring Cox employees, but a local team of employees reads through every application and determines how the dollars will be best invested to impact positive change in the communities we serve” said Anthony Pope, senior vice president and region manager for Cox Southeast.
