NEW ORLEANS — WWL-TV Morning Meteorologist Dave Nussbaum

The “cold” front has moved through and it has not cooled us down. It did bring us some relief to the heat yesterday, but that is not the case today. We will have partly cloudy skies with spotty showers and storms mainly south of I-10 today. High temperatures will climb back into the mid 90s and it will feel like 102-107. Some clouds will linger over us tonight with more muggy lows in the mid to upper 70s. The cold front will stay along our coast on Friday as it continues to weaken. We will be partly cloudy again with only a few showers and storms popping up. It will be very hot and humid with highs in the mid 90s and it will feel like 103-108+.

Weekend Forecast: The front will retreat back north and dissipate on Saturday. At the same time, an area of high pressure over Bermuda will move closer to the SE U.S. This will bring back southerly winds and high humidity levels all weekend. Saturday will be partly cloudy, hot and humid with scattered showers and storms. Highs will be in the mid 90s. Sunday will have a little better chance and coverage of storms with highs in the lower 90s.

Tropics: all areas remain quiet and no development is expected for the next 5 days. However, forecast models have been hinting at a disturbance in the Gulf by the middle to end of next week. This has been a trend over the last few days.  There is no agreement on the strength or track of this feature, but it is something worth keeping an eye on through this weekend and as we begin next week. We are creeping closer to the peak of the season and more development is certainly expected.
