HEAT ADVISORY is in effect until 8 PM Tuesday.
Heat index of 108-112° expected which heat-related illness are possible

More oppressive heat is on tap today as the ridge of high pressure aloft starts to move back the west.  We will have plenty of sunshine again today, but there will be a slightly better chance for showers and storms this afternoon and evening. This will be some much needed relief from the heat – if you are lucky enough to get some rain! High temperatures will soar into the mid 90s. An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect until 8 PM for the Northshore and MS Coast where the heat index will be around 113°+. A Heat Advisory is in effect until 8 PM for the Southshore where the heat index will be around 108-112°. Once again, please take it easy if you have to be outside for an extended period of time and stay hydrated! We will have more clouds coming in tonight along with spotty showers. Lows will be in the lower 80s.

A “cold” front will move all the way down to the I-10 corridor on Wednesday and Thursday. This will bring us scattered to numerous showers and storms on Wednesday with some heavy rain.  We will still heat up into the lower 90s before the storms develop. Look for more scattered storms on Thursday, but the coverage will be less than Wednesday. High temperatures will remain in the lower 90s.

The front will dissipate over the northern Gulf Coast on Friday and the ridge will build back toward us. We will have fewer storms with more sunshine. It will heat back up into the lower to mid 90s and feel like 103-108.

Weekend Outlook: We will return to more typical mid-August weather Saturday and Sunday. That means it will be hot, and humid with a daily chance for scattered showers and storms. High temperatures will be in the lower to mid 90s and it will feel like 105-110.

Tropics: Thankfully, we do not have any tropical threats this week. The tropics are still quiet as dry, dusty air swirls over a huge part of the Atlantic Basin.
