NEW ORLEANS — The southbound bridge of the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway was closed Thursday after a crash spilled nails onto the road.
The Causeway Police Department confirmed that the bridge was closed via a post on Twitter around 9:10 a.m.
“Due to an accident, the Causeway – Southbound is closed at this time. Updates to follow,” the post said.
The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate reports that a vehicle pulling a trailer flipped several times, spilling building materials onto the bridge.
“There are nails all over the deck,” General Manager Carlton Dufrechou said. “We’re trying to clean that up.”
Drivers on the Northshore who are trying to travel south should use Interstates 10 or 55 as alternate routes.
