Stormy Holiday Weekend

Heavy rain could lead to areas of localized flooding through the weekend.

A series of upper disturbances have been keeping our rain coverage on the high side for the past few days, and this pattern will continue through the weekend and into early next week. One such disturbance currently over Kansas looks to increase rain coverage to around 70-80% by Sunday and Monday before moving farther east by Tuesday and Wednesday. Rainfall accumulation amounts look to be around 1-3″ through the weekend, but localized higher amounts of 5″+ are very possible. So minor flooding is a potential through the weekend, though not on a large scale. Clouds and rain should certainly keep high temperatures down and the extreme head indies won’t be an issue. A ridge building in the Gulf will begin to dry us out by the middle to end of next week.

Eye on the Tropics: The series of upper disturbances have been indicated on models to attempt to move eastward into the Atlantic off the East coast and potentially take on tropical characteristics. Still uncertain if this will occur. No development expected in the next several days and no threats to LA.
